The atmosphere was open and intimate, playful and loaded with a subtile seriousness.
Through the performances the political situation in Myanmar got tangible.
The curious audience was invited to participate in every performance, which happened with great eagerness and surprising effects and reactions.
Each performance got different layers and directions.
The mingling of the States in Extrapool found ground.

De Deelstaat= Extrapool+Sandarbh
Sandarbh is afkomstig uit de kleine stad Partapur in Rajasthan, West-India. Sandardh betekent context in Hindi. Dit kunstenaarsinitiatief streeft ernaar verschillende vormen van artistieke praktijk te onderzoeken. Het organiseert onder andere workshops, residentieprogramma’s gericht op site-specific-projecten, performances, community-art-projecten en projecten in de openbare ruimte. De initiatieven die deelnemen aan Deelstaat =, zijn alle opgericht vanuit een zekere urgentie die te maken heeft met hun specifieke context. Sandarbh heeft zich tot doel gesteld om middels kunst en op natuurlijke wijze nieuwe ideeën en denkwijzen over te brengen op de plaatselijke bevolking.
Deelnemende kunstenaars
Voor Deelstaat = stuurt Sandarbh Shreyas Karle en Lochan Upadhyay als afgezanten. Zij zijn de 'staatshoofden' tijdens het project. Daarnaast hebben zij kunstenaars uitgenodigd die eerder hebben meegedaan aan hun eigen residentieprojecten: Anne Percoco uit de Verenigde Staten, Florian Tuercke uit Duitsland en Szigeti G. Csongor uit Hongarije. Zij zijn allen goed bekend met de werkmethoden van het Indiase initiatief. Kunstenaar en curator Anke Mellin (DE) en kunstenaar Ivan Smith (GB), die in de adviescommissie van Sandarbh zitten, zullen de residentie begeleiden.
Extrapool heeft de kunstenaars Michiel Huijben, Jason van der Woude en Julia Boix-Vives uitgenodigd samen te werken met bovengenoemde kunstenaars.

From 28 October until 12 November Extrapool will host the first part of a big residency project, Deelstaat = (‘shared state’). Deelstaat = connects Extrapool with artist initiatives from non-western countries. Both organizations are considered as different states, with their own set of rules, working methods and perspectives. In Deelstaat = these two organizations will become one during two weeks and join in an intensive collaboration.
In the first part of Deelstaat =, Extrapool will work together with Sandarbh, an artist initiative from Rajasthan (India). Both have invited artists from all over the globe to make new work regarding the context of Extrapool and Nijmegen. They shall also work in public space.
On 6 November, an artist talk will take place in which the audience can take part. During this talk, the developments of the project will be shown and the collaboration itself will be discussed. Are there big differences between western and non-western artist initiatives? What can these initiatives learn from each other?
The collaboration will end on 12 November with a presentation of new work and documentation of the working period and with discussions and lectures.
